Build Your Own Web Site The Right Way Using HTML & CSS by Ian Lloyd is incredibly readable and nobody should feel being talked down to as they read IanÕs words.
The instructions are pretty much platform agnostic and where there are differences, some thought was put into showing what those differences are. Most ÒadditionalÓ software discussed is Open Source, while staying Òstandards compliantÓ.
A lot of ink is obviously dedicated to CSS, but still leaves open such topics as using tables and form elements.
There is also some ink devoted to blogging, web-hosting and using site statistics to better pull in efforts to monetize the effort of creating a web page/site environment.
I learned about some of the shortcoming of our own website efforts and learned a few thing we are currently not doing that we ought to be doing. And isn't that what learning to build a website the right way is all about?
